Catalin Predoiu, the Minister of Internal Affairs, made two very important announcements regarding the Romanian Gendarmerie and the Republic of Moldova, and this is because he brings to our attention what we should know about the official decisions that were taken at the governmental level.
Catalin Predoiu explains below what he discussed with the heads of the Romanian Gendarmerie, but also with his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, one of the most important partners that Romania currently has, and with which we have some of the closest collaboration relationships.
"Today, I had an important meeting with the leadership of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie. We reviewed the main objectives and missions for the next period, insisting on a professional and transparent approach in the activities of the gendarmes. I encourage public clarification of the legal duties of the Gendarmerie to ensure community support and prevent negative interpretations. I emphasized the importance of respecting professional values and ethics in the interactions of gendarmes with citizens, both on duty and in their free time.
Protecting the safety of citizens at public events is a priority, and the support given by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the Romanian Gendarmerie in legal steps to improve the service is guaranteed. The debates also included solutions for the shortage of staff, to ensure the efficient performance of all duties in the future.
Today, I had a videoconference meeting with Mr. Adrian Efros, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. During this meeting, we addressed the following topics: Fluidization of traffic between Romania and the Republic of Moldova We agreed that a rigorous analysis of the measures adopted so far is necessary and the need for new effective investments in the medium and long term.
Minister Efros requested Romania's support for the implementation of public warning systems (of the RO-ALERT type) for the population in case of emergency situations and I gave assurances that we will support this endeavor. The importance of strengthening the security of the Republic of Moldova
I emphasized once again the firm commitment of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs to support the European path of the Republic of Moldova."
