Minister of Health Government Decision LAST MINUTE Actions Underway Romania

The Minister of Health announces a new last-minute Government decision for Romania, and this is because a series of measures will be implemented that will allow the Ministry to organize the 31st session of the Permanent Committee of the Regional Council of the Organization of Health, in Bucharest.

The Minister of Health explains below why this action is very important for Romania at the moment, as a member state of the WHO, Alexandru Rafila being one of its members for a very long time, our country being eager to show that it is a member important within the organization.

"Romania has been a member of the WHO since 1948. Over time, the good cooperative relations between Romania and the WHO Europe Regional Office have been materialized through the existing biennial collaboration agreements between the two parties. The last document was signed in Geneva on January 24, 2024, during the visit of the Minister of Health to the WHO headquarters and is valid for the period 2024-2025.

The appreciation for Romania's activity within the WHO is also confirmed by the re-election of our country during the 72nd session of the CR, which took place in Tel Aviv, Israel, between September 11-15, 2022, for a new mandate as member in the SCRC, as a representative of Group B. During the period 5-8 February 2024, the 2nd meeting of the 31st session of the Standing Committee of the Regional Council took place in Copenhagen, Kingdom of Denmark (SCRC) of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Within the SCRC, Romania is represented by Prof. Univ. Dr. Adriana Pistol, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health, who also holds the position of president of SCRC during the 31st session. In accordance with the customs of this Committee, the chairperson of ongoing sessions must host a physical session in the country he represents.

Thus, during the 2nd meeting of the SCRC, where members of the SCRC participated, as well as Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, regional director of the Regional Office of the World Health Organization for Europe, it was decided that the 3rd session of SCRC this year, to take place in Bucharest, between April 25-26, 2024.

The 3rd meeting of the SCRC will have the main purpose of establishing the technical topics within the work agenda of the 74th session of the WHO Europe Regional Committee (RC). The SCRC action is of particular importance for Romania, strengthening its image as a country capable of organizing a meeting on a subject of particular importance."
