Austria feels increasing pressure, which is put on Karl Nehammer, and this also brings a series of last-minute measures for when Romania joins Schengen, everything being announced by the Minister of the Interior Catalin Predoiu, who confirms that since January work is being done to lift controls at the land borders in the Schengen Area.
Austria is currently collaborating with Romania to reduce illegal migration, human trafficking and cross-border crime, the aim of the authorities in Bucharest being to increase confidence in our ability to protect the borders and to convince Karl Nehammer that the country's accession to Schengen ours, it must be complete.
Austria will be pressured not only by Romania, but also by the European Commission to allow Romania's accession to Schengen, but the disappearance of Karl Nehammer from the head of the Government in Vienna will be the surest way to get what we want, no matter what measures to the government in Bucharest and how much they are struggling.
"We have not stopped the steps. The major difference compared to last year is that now we have become members of the Schengen Area and we approach this file further from the position of a Schengen member state with a different influence, with, if you like, a different position among the European member states. We focus on preventing and countering illegal migration flows.
We have had countless, concrete, applied discussions with fellow ministers from Austria, but also from other EU member states, in order to organize teams and coordinate our efforts, so that the level of trust increases. We already started the implementation measures for the first stage in January, but also preparation for the second stage."
