Romania Formal Declarations LAST MOMENT Brussels Completion of Schengen Accession

Romania is at the center of some last-minute formal declarations from Brussels regarding the completion of Schengen accession, and this is because both the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, and the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansson, marked the event in March 31, even with quite bold promises.

Romania still remains in the attention of the European Commission regarding the completion of the accession to Schengen, including land borders, Ylva Johansson stating that this would be one of the priorities she has for the end of her mandate at the European Commission, i.e. for the next few months of days, in June with European parliamentary elections taking place in Europe.

Romania must find a solution to force Karl Nehammer to give up the December 2022 veto against our country's full accession to Schengen, but for now there are only promises and nothing concrete, despite all the announcements, including from Bucharest, related of the search for solutions to solve this problem with national impact this year.

"Now the controls at the internal air and sea borders will be eliminated. The next step is to remove controls at internal land borders as well. Discussions within the Council will continue this year. And I assure you that this is the priority for the end of my term. said Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs.

Bulgaria and Romania join the Schengen family. I welcome the lifting of internal air and sea border controls. This is a great success for both countries. And a historic moment for the Schengen area – the largest free movement area in the world. Together, we are building a stronger and more united Europe for all our citizens... said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission."
