Marcel Ciolacu, the Minister of Finance, announced the signing of the technical-economic indicators for the Pașcani-Suceava section of the A7 highway, marking a crucial moment in the development of regional connections. Located in the heart of Moldova, on the territory of Iași, Suceava and Botoșani counties, this segment will connect the sections Bacău-Pașcani, which is already under construction, and Suceava-Siret, which is in the design phase, thus strengthening the access of the entire region to the capital.
The total investment, estimated at 9,2 billion lei, is financed through a combination of European funds, allocated through the Transport Program, and resources from the state budget. This includes not only the construction work itself, but also the ancillary infrastructure and other associated costs. The project comprises a route of 62 kilometers, divided into two lots, which promises to facilitate not only local but also inter-regional mobility.
Marcel Ciolacu emphasizes the strategic importance of the A7 highway, demonstrating that, through careful planning and efficient coordination of available resources, the foundations of major infrastructure projects can be laid. Despite the financial challenges, including the need to secure national co-financing to access European funds, the ministry managed to find viable solutions to finance this vital section.
With an estimated need of €10 billion to support infrastructure projects in the coming years, this announcement comes as a reaffirmation of the government's commitment to improving transport connections in and to Moldova. The Ploiești-Buzău-Focșani-Pașcani section is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), while the segment to Siret benefits from support through the Transport Program 2021-2027, highlighting a strategic and multifactorial approach to the country's infrastructural development.
Through these efforts, the Minister of Finance brings to the fore not only the importance of physical infrastructure for economic and social progress, but also the essential role of planning and financing in achieving Romania's ambitious development objectives.
