Minister of Agriculture IMPORTANT BAN Announced Officially Romania

The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, announced from April 9, 2024 the establishment of a fishing prohibition period that will last 60 days, until June 7 inclusive. This measure affects all forms of fishing – commercial, recreational, sport and family – in natural fish habitats.

Florin Barbu stated that this decision is necessary to protect biodiversity and ensure a sustainable future for aquatic resources. Fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic life are now under a shield of total protection, allowing ecosystems to recover in a natural and healthy way.

Florin Barbu claims that, according to the new regulations, any form of fishing during this period is considered a contravention and can attract fines between 600 and 1000 lei. Moreover, for those who violate these rules, the fishing license will be withheld and suspended for a period of 90 days. In the case of commercial fishing, the penalties are even more severe, being considered a crime, with substantial fines and a ban from fishing for a period of 1 to 3 years.

For those interested in additional details, Order no. 561/2023/11/2024 regulating these measures is available for consultation. The document details not only the periods and areas of prohibition, but also the areas of protection and biological restoration of aquatic resources for the year 2024.

This decision comes in the context of a global concern for the conservation of the environment and natural resources, reflecting Romania's commitment to follow international directives for the protection and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems.
