"Friday, April 19, there was an extraordinary meeting of the NATO Council - Ukraine, in a defense format, which took place in a videoconference system. The Ministry of National Defense was represented by the Secretary of State for Defense Policy, Planning and International Relations, Simona Cojocaru. During the meeting, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke from Kyiv, calling on allied states to step up their support for Ukraine.

The Chief of the Defense Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, met on Thursday, April 18, at the MApN headquarters, with his counterpart from the Republic of Ireland, Lieutenant General Seán Clancy, who was on an official visit to our country. The dialogue focused on the regional security situation, with an emphasis on the Black Sea region and Eastern Europe. Also, the two defense chiefs identified ways to strengthen bilateral military relations, as well as within the European Union's Common Security and Defense Policy.

During the meeting, General Gheorghiță Vlad highlighted the contribution of Irish partners to UN peacekeeping operations, as well as to support missions of the allied military in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
