The European Parliament Refuses to Recognize the Legitimacy of the Russian Presidential Elections

The European Parliament voted a resolution refusing to recognize the legitimacy of the presidential elections in Russia, stating that they were not organized democratically, thus refusing to recognize the legitimacy of Vladimir Putin as president of the state.

The European Parliament also asks the countries of the European Union to help the dissidents who are trying to flee from Russia at the moment, some are doing so, while the others have not taken steps in this regard, but most likely they will in the future.

"The European Parliament refused to recognize the results of the presidential elections in Russia and asked EU member states to limit relations with Putin - resolution.

"During these so-called elections there were no alternative candidates, no free press, no independent observers and no political freedoms. Consequently, the so-called elections are illegitimate and undemocratic," the resolution states. The European Parliament called on EU member states to "provide humanitarian visas and other support to Russian dissidents."
