PPC Energy continues to implement important initiatives for Romania in this period from 2025, so at this moment it brings to our attention that the subsidiary Rețele Electrice România has started a public auction through the SEAP platform, with a maximum value estimated at approximately 40 million lei (excluding VAT).
PPC Energy explains that the object of the acquisition is prefabricated, fully equipped, concrete-enclosed transformer stations, which will support the investment projects planned for the period 2025–2027. The initiative strengthens PPC Energy's position on the Romanian market and reflects a coherent strategy to modernize and expand the electricity distribution network.
Through this tender, PPC Energy aims to increase the reliability of the distribution system and quickly adapt to climate challenges and demand evolution. Specifically, the prefabricated transformer stations will be equipped with RMU (Ring Main Unit), compact SF₆-free switching solutions, designed for medium voltage networks up to 24 kV and adapted for altitudes up to 1000 meters.
The duration of the contract is 48 months, and requests for proposals can be submitted in accordance with the technical and environmental specifications included in the specifications. Mihai Pește, General Manager of Rețele Electrice România, emphasized that constant investments in infrastructure represent “a strategic mission of PPC Energy in Romania”.
PPC Energy says that, according to him, the modernization of concrete tire transformer stations is essential for improving the performance and resilience of the network, contributing to reducing the duration and number of outages, especially in the context of extreme weather events.
"We aim to build a flexible infrastructure, capable of dynamically responding to new technological requirements and changes in our customers' consumption," the general manager also stated.
Impressive investments made by Electric Grids in Romania
PPC Energy, in the spirit of environmental responsibility, has integrated sustainability criteria into the supplier selection process. Thus, offers that prove the use of recyclable packaging will receive additional points in the technical evaluation stage. This provision highlights the company's commitment to implementing eco-friendly solutions throughout the supply chain and aligns with the environmental protection objectives of the PPC group.
Moreover, this project is part of an ambitious investment plan, through which PPC Energy aims to reduce technological losses and increase the capacity to integrate renewable sources into the grid. In 2025, the company plans to allocate a total of over 730 million lei for the expansion and updating of the distribution infrastructure in the Muntenia, Banat and Dobrogea regions.
The projects financed through POIM and the Modernization Fund, estimated at about 1,4 billion lei for the period 2026–2029, will include both European funds and own contributions of approximately 340 million lei.
Another pillar of PPC Energy's strategy is the digitalization of services. By the end of 2025, Rețele Electrice România estimates the installation of approximately two million smart meters, the largest volume ever achieved by a distribution operator in Romania.
These equipment will provide real-time data, facilitating more efficient consumption management and reducing operational costs. Rețele Electrice România currently operates a network of approximately 134.000 kilometers, serving a third of the local electricity distribution market.
The company manages 289 transformer stations and over 25.000 transformer substations, ensuring the supply of millions of residential and industrial consumers. Through projects ongoing and planned, PPC Energy reaffirms its leading position in the modernization and sustainable development of the energy infrastructure in Romania.
