Nicosor Dan recently made some important clarifications regarding Romania's economic situation, government plans and the situation related to magistrates' pensions, addressing directly Romanians and foreign investors. The first message transmitted is one of trust and cautious optimism, emphasizing that the current period is temporary and that Romania has solid economic potential. The mayor mentions that, if no major mistakes are made in 2026, our country will enter the OECD, which will increase its attractiveness for foreign investors.
Nicosor Dan wants to assure financial markets and investors that the authorities are serious and will implement the necessary reforms to recover the market. A concrete example in this regard is the announcement that, within the budget rectification for 2025, the Presidential Administration will propose a 20% reduction of its own budget, thus contributing to a common effort of austerity and financial balancing.
Asked about the order of the measures taken, the mayor explained that the pressure exerted by the financial markets imposed measures to increase revenues immediately, before correcting privileges, although these should have been addressed as a priority. Regarding VAT, the Government has made a firm commitment that it will not increase and that a reassessment of the situation will take place by October 15.
Another important topic addressed by Nicusor Dan is that of magistrates' pensions. He described as a major mistake the fact that pensions in this professional category have become higher than salaries, a situation that has negatively affected the justice system. Also, in recent years, contradictory messages have led a large number of magistrates and prosecutors to retire early, which has contributed to the decline in the quality of justice.
Nicusor Dan mentioned that the magistrates' law contains a transitional provision that allows those who meet the retirement conditions to keep their rights if they choose to retire later. Thus, the mayor sent a clear and firm message to magistrates: those who can continue to work in the system should not retire hastily, in order to ensure the stability of justice.
In the final part of his statements, Nicusor Dan shed light on the financial situations related to the electoral campaign. He presented concrete figures from the pre-campaigns for the local and presidential elections, showing that donations were almost equal to expenses or even lower. For example, in the pre-campaign for the local elections, donations of 1.750.000 lei were collected and expenses of 1.650.000 lei, and in the presidential pre-campaign, donations totaled 9.550.000 lei, while expenses were 7.000.000 lei.
Regarding the main donors, the mayor mentioned five people who contributed substantially, including Măriuca and Florin Talpes with 810.000 lei, Aurel Iancu with 500.000 lei and Anamaria Mihai with 250.000 lei.
In conclusion, Nicusor Dan's messages convey a firm commitment to economic and financial reforms, with the clear objective of stabilizing and developing Romania, making the justice system more efficient, and strengthening investor confidence in our country.
