The baseband update is done only by restoring from iTunes and NEVER automatically! The update can be avoided using PwnageTool. Be VERY careful when restoring your phone, if you are not careful you can end up with a blocked phone for who knows how long.
What is ultrasn0w?
Ultrasn0w is the software that unlocks the phone. It can be installed only from Cydia and only after jailbreak.
What does neverlocked mean?
Neverlocked is the term used for an iPhone decoded from the factory, meaning it has never been locked on the network of any mobile operator.
What is PwnageTool?
PwnageTool is a program created by Dev Team through which the firmware released by Apple can be customized. There is no Windows version of this program. It is in the works but it is not known when it will be launched.

I have no signal after the jailbreak
If you have restored the phone and you have no signal after the jailbreak (and not before) it means that you have to reinstall ultrasn0w or blacksn0w using one of these tutorials: unlock with ultrasn0w , blacksn0w windows unlock , blacksn0w mac unlock. If you have a neverlocked phone, it is not necessary to install these unlocking programs, you can try a reset network settings.
