This tutorial does not work with iOS 4.0!
This tutorial is addressed to those who have a jailbroken phone and use the phone with a Official Carrier, in which case this option will be blocked. This option is very useful if you do not have a data plan included in your subscription or card, the option giving you the opportunity to remove the Internet settings and thus block the phone from making traffic on its own.
Step 1
Open ifunbox (if you jailbroken with blackra1n, follow the tutorial first this to solve the compatibility problem), winscp or your favorite program to view the phone's system files.
Step 2
Navigate to System>Library>Carrier Bundles>22610. 22610 is the identification number for Orange Romania, if you use the phone in another country you must search in the list for your operator.
Step 3
Enter the file and download the carriers.plist file to your phone, which you must open with an editor for .plist files here.
Step 4
After opening the file, right at the beginning you will find the following text:
Immediately after these lines, enter the following text:
AllowEDGEEditing
Step 5
After entering that text, save the file and copy it back to the folder from which you downloaded it.
Now navigate to Settings>General>Network where you will have the Cellular Data Network option.
