Unreal Engine 3 running on iPhone

Epic Games, offered to those from AnandTech the possibility to test the performance of a tech demo of the 3D engine U on an iPod Touch 3G. In case you didn't know, Unreal Engine 3 is the graphics engine used for some of the most popular and best-selling games of recent years: Bioshock, Gears of War, Borderlands, Unreal Tournament 3, etc. The engine can only be run on the latest generation terminals from Apple, iPod Touch 3G and iPhone 3GS due to the superior hardware compared to the previous models and if Epic Games succeeds in transforming the engine that revolutionized gaming graphics on the PC into one usable for developers of applications for iPhone OS, then they will most likely succeed in revolutionizing the way in which future generations of applications for mobile terminals will be created.

It is not yet known when this technology will be made available for mobile terminals, but Epic Games officials promise that they will present demos with the engine running on other mobile platforms as well during the CES Conference next month in Las Vegas.

The demo below manages to reveal the fact that U could offer those who will buy it the ace in the hole in terms of creating successful games both from a graphical point of view and not only.
