redsn0w 0.9 almost done

Almost an hour ago, the most famous member of Dev Team, musclenerd, made an announcement that gives us hope that the team is not sleeping but is still working for the good of the iPhone community. The announcement came in the form of a tweet pe Twitter which included a link to a screenshot showing a new feature that will come with redsn0w 0.9, namely the possibility to add a boot logo when you jailbreak.

For those who do not know, redsn0w is a utility used to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0/3.0.1 but which with the switch to firmware 3.1 became incompatible, then switching to the utility offered by Geohot, blackra1n.

Last summer's version of redsn0w did not include the option to add a custom boot logo when you jailbreak, this option being until now exclusively available for Pwnagetool. However, the new version comes as a surprise because with the transition to 3.1 Dev Team announced that he will no longer work on the project at all redsn0w and my thoughts inevitably fly to what they said about the new bootrom, namely the fact that they will not get too involved in finding a solution for this problem.

Until then, we are waiting to see how the new tool will look, but don't be too happy because, as you can see from the screenshot, first there will be an option for Mac OSX and only then one for Windows(if it ever appears again).

But given that blackra1n does his job more than well, is redsn0w really needed? Will you use it as a replacement for blackra1n?
