The AppStore will have a strong rival

12 of the largest operators in the world including: Orange, Telefonica si AT&T have decided to form an alliance that will lead to the creation of a new standard of applications that will be compatible with all operating systems existing on phones today. This alliance will be joined by big names from the industry of companies producing mobile terminals: Samsung, Sony Ericsson si LG, with the main purpose of dethroning supremacy Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), and the AppStore regarding the sale of applications for iPhone / iPod Touch.

The new alliance will be based on nearly 2 billion users whose mobile phones will be compatible with the new standard and who will be able to download applications from the new online store. The alliance is based on the fact that at the moment the mobile phone application market is fragmented, Apple, Google, BlackBerry si Nokia each having an online store through which they sell applications to customers, and developers must either choose a platform on which to develop the software or multiply the same software on several platforms to be able to obtain the necessary funds to continue the work.

Of course, the main reason is money because it is estimated that this year the revenue from mobile terminal application sales will reach approximately $6.5 billion, an increase compared to last year.

I am surprised that AT&T, such a faithful ally Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), decided to join this alliance, but the official announcement will be made today in Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and only then will we know more.

I am sure that such an alliance will be much too strong for Apple, but do you think that the applications will be of such good quality?
