Android 15 is about to introduce a groundbreaking feature that could completely transform the way we interact with our favorite apps. The feature, called "Darken All Apps," was spotted in beta code by Android Authority's Mishaal Rahman and promises to force all apps into dark mode, even if they don't natively support it.
Android 15 will change the dark mode, originally introduced in Android 10 in 2019, which was appreciated for its aesthetic and ergonomic benefits, changing bright colors to gentler tones for the eyes, ideal for use at night. However, many popular apps, such as Amazon and Fitbit, do not yet support dark mode, which restricts the uniformity of the visual experience on the device.
Android 15 could change this landscape with a built-in solution to enable dark mode in all apps. Currently, users who want to use apps in dark mode can enable "Force-Dark Replacement" from developer options or resort to third-party apps like DarQ. However, these solutions are often unpredictable and can lead to interface problems.

Android 15 with the new "Darken all apps" feature looks promising in tests so far, offering a consistent and visually pleasing dark mode even for apps that didn't originally support this option. It is based on an improved algorithm that not only changes the color palette of applications, but also ensures smoother integration and fewer display errors.
Android 15 will have this feature placed not in the developer menu, but directly in the accessibility options, which will make it easier to use for a wider range of people. Since Dark All Apps isn't yet available in the current Android 15 beta previews, it's expected to be officially released in Android 15 beta 2, scheduled for May 14, in time for Google I/O 2024.
