Apple loses $175 million by giving away free Bumper cases

Last week Apple held a conference in which Steve Jobs declared that all those who bought/will buy an iPhone 4 will receive a free Bumper case. This move is meant to calm the waters regarding signal issues as it has been proven that using a Bumper case solves the problem of signal loss. Steve Jobs declared that Apple will offer free Bumpers until September 30, when, probably, a new batch of iPhone 4 will come out without problems with the antennas and implicitly the signal.

Last night Apple held a conference to present its financial situation for the first half of this year, and a company official declared that this "gift" offered to iPhone 175 users costs Apple $4 million. So in the next month and a half, Apple will lose a lot of money trying to please its customers. My opinion is that the $175 million represents much less than Apple would have lost if it had continued to deny these problems.
