MeeGo is a new operating system for mobile terminals developed by Nokia together with Intel, the system being a combination of 2 mobile platforms: Moblin and Maemo, the final result being what you see in the video clip above, under the name MeeGo. Nokia N900 runs the Maemo OS, but unfortunately for Nokia, the N900 did not have much traction with the public, so the company was forced to ally with Intel to improve the foundations of this (linux-based) OS, developed under the by MeeGo. MeeGo show quite well, it easily brings Maemo, but it seems to have a slightly more user friendly interface, and most importantly, it allows, like Maemo, the installation of applications from the Ovi Store.

In February, Intel Corporation and Nokia Merged their popular Moblin and Maemo software platforms to create a unified Linux-based platform that will run on multiple hardware platforms across a wide range of computing devices, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems. Called MeeGo, the open software platform hopes to accelerate industry innovation and time-to-market for a wealth of new Internalt-based applications and services and exciting user experiences. MeeGo-based devices from Nokia and other manufacturers are expected to be launched later this year.

Intel and Nokia want to make MeeGo an OS that will fight with iOS and they will probably succeed, Intel is a very powerful company with a lot of experience, funds, and people capable of developing this OS. My opinion is that it will take a few years, but if Intel puts its shoulder to the contribution, then Apple could have a much stronger competitor in MeeGo than in Android, and I say this only because Intel + Nokia could be much stronger than Google.
