Android OS surpasses iOS in the mobile terminal sales charts

A company from the USA monitored for 6 months the sales of mobile terminals on the American territory and the other day published a study very interesting about the operating systems that most mobile terminals sold in the USA run. According to this study, between January and August 2010, the majority of mobile terminals bought by Americans ran Android OS, with BlackBerry OS in second place and iOS terminals in last place. Android OS had a tremendous growth because lately more and more terminals have appeared running this operating system and it was normal for sales to leave their mark on the market share held by Android OS at the expense of iOS and BlackBerry OS.

In August of this year, approximately 32% of the terminals sold in the US ran Android OS, 25% iOS and 26% BlackBerry OS. Android has surpassed iOS in terms of adoption rate since March, but it must be taken into account that there are many terminals running Android OS and very few running iOS. Basically we are talking here about a lot of Android smartphones versus iPhone 3G/3GS/4, iPad and iPhone 2G/3G. To be honest, the comparison is a bit forced because the balance of power is unequal and it will always be that way because Apple will have a limited range of terminals and Android will run on any type of mobile phone, whether it's a high-end smartphone or a cheap phone offered free with subscription.

However, the market share of Android OS remains far below that of iOS or BlackBerry OS, but the situation will definitely change by 2012.
