The new jailbreak solution will NOT work with all terminals, but it is untethered

Last night the Chronic Dev Team have announced the date when the jailbreak solution will be available for download and of course everyone was happy to be able to use their terminal again. Unfortunately, shortly after this announcement came the first clarifications regarding the new jailbreak solution, more precisely we are talking about the terminals on which we will be able to use this new solution. First of all, the new jailbreak solution will ONLY work on the following terminals:

  • iPad;
  • iPhone 4;
  • iPod Touch 4G;
  • maybe AppleTV too.

Those from the Chronic Dev Team say that the exploit they discovered does not work with other terminals because it simply cannot exploit this vulnerability for the old versions of iPhone/iPod Touch. If you have an iPhone 3G/3GS or an iPod Touch 3G then you will not be able to use this jailbreak solution. Dev Team will release PwnageTool these days and we will see then what kind of compatibility this application has, but probably 3GS with new bootrom and iPod Touch 2G/3G with new bootrom will remain without jailbreak for now.

On the other hand, there is also a jacket good, the jailbreak solution will be untethered, that means we won't need to redo the jailbreak when we reset the devices. I know that many of you will be unhappy, but unfortunately this is the situation at the moment.

UPDATED: Those with iPod Touch 2G(new bootrom) can do tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.1 with this tutorial.
