Apple releases Mac OS X 10.6.5 without AirPrint for some users

Yesterday around 0:00 Apple released the new version 10.6.5 of Mac OS X, but despite insurance given by Steve Jobs that AirPrint will work, but for some this option is not available in the new version of Mac OS X. This sporadic availability could be related to the version of iTunes installed on the computer, that is, in order to use AirPrint without problems, users must have iTunes 10.1 installed in the PC and those who do not have it will probably have to use it method below to enable AirPrint on Mac OS X 10.6.5:

  • look for a beta version of Mac OS X, 10H542, is the most suitable and extract the following files from it:
    • /usr/libexec/cups/filter/urftopdf
    • /usr/share/cups/mime/apple.convs
    • /usr/share/cups/mime/apple.types
  • to access those files there are 2 methods:
    • 1. type from the Terminal application  open -a Finder /usr/libexec/cups.
    • 2. from Finder select the menu Go then Go to folder and enter the location /usr/libexec/cups
  • copy them to your Mac in exactly the same locations over the existing ones;
  • go to the Print & Fax preferences panel where you will delete and then re-add the printer;
  • finally, go to the "Sharing" menu and share the printer on the network so that it can be found by the iDevice.

If you follow these steps you should have AirPrint enabled on your Mac with OS X 10.6.5.
