VLC Streamer is a new application for iDevices that allows us to stream video from PC to iDevices using only a Wi-Fi connection. VLC Streamer is composed of 2 components: an application for iDevices and a server program that must be installed on the computer (Mac/PC). The computer program gives the iDevice access to the entire hard drive of your computer and through the application you can select any movie from the computer and watch it in real time, the computer doing the conversion as you watch the movie.
The good part of this application lies in the fact that you can see any video format on iDevices because the computer is the one that converts it into a format accepted by your terminal. You have several settings for the video quality and depending on them you will determine the quality of the stream. I tried to stream a movie in .avi format from my laptop to my iPhone 4 at High quality with High bandwidth and unfortunately the stream had interruptions and the audio quality was below average.
VLC Streamer is a universal application and is available in 2 versions: a lite version that is free and a full version that costs €0.79. I recommend you to test it before purchasing it so you don't wake up with unpleasant surprises. You can download the server application for PC from here.
