Samsung Galaxy S sold 10 million units, setting a new world record

Today Samsung a announced officially that the Samsung Galaxy S is the first terminal equipped with the Android operating system that was sold in more than 10 million copies. The Samsung Galaxy S is the first Android smartphone that managed to convince many iPhone users to give up their old terminals and that says a lot about the way this terminal is built. Those from Samsung announced at the beginning of December that they sold no less than 9.3 million terminals, but during the holidays it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S was one of the buyers' favorites and the figure of 10.000.000 was slightly exceeded.

Galaxy S has been on the market for only 7 months and represents a real success both for Samsung and for the Android platform, which had a spectacular growth in the last part of this year. Of course, the iPhone 4 sold much better than the Samsung Galaxy S, Apple managing to sell more than 10.000.000 million terminals since the fall of last year, and I suspect that on January 18 we will find out some very interesting data from the company. I'm glad that Samsung managed to make such a good terminal, because that's what led Apple to take their turn with the iPhone 4.

do you speak in the knowledge of the cause?

I had 2g and 3gs, now I have galaxy s and honestly I am more satisfied with galaxy s

I'm not saying that I don't miss certain things from the iPhone, but I found other "toys" on Android

anyway, I'm following the forum for my friend, because she got her 3gs ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. @vlad โ€“ you can't say GalaxyS is very weak if you haven't had it

I have a Galaxy S for 2-3 weeks (I also have an iPhone 3G), I also had a 3GS before and filled up the 4; - nevertheless, I can say that SGS is above the iPhone 4 in many aspects of the facilities, but in some things it is perhaps below the iPhone 2G. At SGS I did root+lagfix and it moves 2-3 times faster. (it's really impressively fast).
(I noticed that quite a few iPhone users got a bit tired of the same typical menu after 4 years/generations - I still like it - although I like to impress my friends with the widgets on SGS).
then I got into the embarrassing situation of not being able to send/receive pictures, music, files from the iPhone 3GS (on 3G it is possible with iBlueNova).
SGS is simpler for those who have minimal PC knowledge, while the iPhone requires a bit of knowledge to synchronize it and others (which annoys many)
I think the price plays a rather important role because with the same specifications, the price is half - Galaxy S/iPhone 4
but above all - as you also said @zaone, I'm also happy because this competition will lead Apple to release better performing, more innovative iDevices (perhaps a little cheaper - which is not too I think), and all will be to the advantage of the buyers

    PS: โ€“ I'm not a Samsung Galaxy S fan โ€“

  3. @daniel C: I speak knowingly. how do you get along with the lag? how is it to turn on contacts and wait 3s until they appear?
because of this I would give it up..

  4. no SGS determined apple to bring iphone 4 ๐Ÿ™‚ SGS appeared at the time when factories were producing iphone 4. I bet big money that at the moment there is already iphone 5 and it is subjected to N tests. The interesting part is that SGS's Boom could influence the "pluses" of iPhone 5.

To be honest, bluetooth is not a problem for me, I got rid of stress like "give me that song too, send me a picture, etc." I don't feel the need for homework, and I think it's silly to mess around with the iPhone.

SGS was well received by those who knew how to modify it, they knew the tricks of the android market and spent 2-5 hours on the phone, possibly also full of nerves because it was giving froyo :)) But to use SGS out of the box, without problems, without to see that she moves like a grandmother when she walks on the ice.. WEAK CHANCES.

Apple remains based on the chapter "no hassle" and updates like "2 clicks" and that's it. As long as you don't need jb and decoding, (ie 90% of buyers), the iphone remains the base.

if we struggle a bit, we have reason to curse apple for its restrictions :> but SGS if it's closed, it doesn't even ring the clock... =))

    cheap = stupid
expensive = well thought out, but not perfect.

  5. iPhone 4 first, after that comes the Galaxy S! Point ๐Ÿ˜‰! The comments are pointless! Well done to those from Android for what they did and implemented in SGS ;)...but no way will they be able to surpass iOs!

  6. @Mircea: One click lag fix doesn't solve anything. no Z4root, no V2, none. believe me, I've tried them all. and on eclair and froyo. the RFS file system on Samsung is unbeatable. they broke the phone and you know it.
take an iPhone in your hand and move your finger over it. do the same with samsung. no work. don't fool yourself anymore..

  7. @VM
the lag was solved with z4root and vodoo... it works great, contacts appear in a second. now don't tell me that they appear instantly on 3gs because I don't believe you ๐Ÿ˜‰
    I'm not a Samsung Galaxy S supporter, but I personally think it's a better hard/soft phone than the 3gs.

  8. @daniel: if you compare it with 3gs, phone from 2009 then let's compare with samsung from 2009. compare with iphone 4, phone from 2010. I had galaxy s, htc touch hd, it doesn't compare with iOS. android still has work to do

  9. As long as samsung tries to copy from apple, the advantage is on the side of those who produce iphone. When they will come up with something innovative over those from apple we will be able to talk about the success of samsung&android.

  10. @vm
I'm comparing the phones I've had.
I don't know how the iphone4 moves, but as I said, the galaxy is super ok for my needs. I don't deny that iOS is not ok to use (simple and intuitive), but Android also has its advantages.

And honestly, if you gave up on it just because your contacts appeared every 3 seconds, it means that you didn't use the phone to its true capacity.

  11. @daniel: it's not just about contacts, man, you don't understand the point. the mail application is USELESS. until he brought the mails, I had better shave. I tried with K9 Mail then. better but still weak. the gmail application is worse than on the iphone. the mail does not show well. shall I tell you more?
applications from the android market. the vast majority stupid and with a lot of problems. it eats your battery, it blocks your phone, I don't know what.
it doesn't seem normal to me, as an end-user, to know how to root and apply a lagfix to make my phone work.

oh, and there's something else. they announced an update to froyo in September. you know when you officially had it, right?

  12. Lol VM you are cool!!! you don't know a root lagfix, but you know solutions to jailbreak iphone, etc. very cool!! this is cool, I swear I'm collapsing laughing so hard

  13. @vm
you will laugh, but I use the gmail application included in the software and I am very satisfied. I feel like I'm on the iPhone and I can see the attachments, so it's really ok.
With the update it's as you say, officially announced in September, received for Romania in November... but there are a lot of "official" updates on the net.
And don't tell me that you should know root and lag because it's about the same thing with jailbreak and cydia. Each makes the phone better.
I don't want to continue the discussion because it's honestly pointless.
I still like the iphone 3gs but for my needs I think the galaxys is better.
As you can see, I continue to read zaone.ro, which does an excellent job in the community.

  14. @dj: I didn't say I don't know, smart guy. I said that Samsung NEEDS SOMETHING MORE TO GO WELL. WHICH IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE iPhone. did you understand now? if not, you keep laughing

  15. "I'm glad that Samsung managed to make such a good terminal because that's what led Apple to take their turn with the iPhone 4." โ€“ ROFL! Do you really think that Apple's roadmap was made based on the features of Samsung phones?! The design is done 1-2 years in advance and the prototypes are tested in several test phases that start at least half a year before the release of the final product!

If others are not able to do more than "get inspiration" from Apple when they design their own product roadmap on the fly, it does not mean that Apple does the same. That's what I think is most admirable about Apple, that it has made it a point to continuously innovate in the markets it enters, including where it has long outpaced its competition and achieved a dominant position โ€“ the media market portable players, new iPods appear every year, even though competing products have long ceased to pose a serious challenge to Apple.

  16. Any company makes its products according to the market. Do you think that Apple would have introduced so many features in the iPhone 4 if there were no competitive smartphones after the release of the 3GS?

  17. @zaone: I am convinced that yes! A company not only competes with others, but also with itself. If they don't constantly bring out new products, the market will be saturated with the current products and the company will have no more sales, so your own customer must be periodically surprised with something new to want, to give up the old product in favor of the new one.

Then there is the expansion of the market, constantly improving the products so that potential customers who were not attracted by previous generations are finally attracted to buy the company's products.

So there's plenty of reason for Apple to keep innovating, regardless of the advances (irrelevant to Apple) made by competitors.

  18. I agree more with @zaone and the explanation is that two generations of iPhones had to go through and only in the third generation did they insert a video camera, and there are other examples... I'm curious what they will do with the radio (if they will - put it in or not - because the iPod nano 5G already has it - WE ARE REINVENTING THE RADIO)

  19. @CoLin: The video camera had several drawbacks: initially there were only very thick models and it would have made the whole phone very bulky and unnecessary, so Apple preferred to come out with thinner models; it consumed a lot of battery when filming and we had to wait for the new battery technology that would last enough even if filming; movies take up a lot of memory, and iPhones originally had much less memory; the processors weren't powerful enough to allow smooth operation of filming and iOS.

The problem with the radio is that it eats up a lot of battery (I know from Nokia) and that it needs an antenna. If it is normal to use headphones on the iPod, they can serve as an antenna, for a phone they are not such a frequently used accessory, so Apple is probably looking for a more elegant solution for the radio. When it has developed it, Apple will proudly announce the innovation, and the competition will copy it as usual, and occasional commentators will say that a radio on a phone is nothing special, that Apple is bragging, etc. The difference, however, will lie in the uniqueness, in the ingenious practicality and, last but not least, in the elegance of the solution that will be presented by Apple.
