The Dev Team has just announced that they will soon release the untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 (via Jailbreak Monte aka redsn0w 0.9.7) due to the fact that Apple still allows users to download iOS 4.1. The new jailbreak solution will therefore only work with iOS 4.1 downloaded from Apple's servers. I don't know more details about this solution yet, but as soon as I find out I will let you know. It is not known when the new untethered jailbreak solution will be available!
The jailbreak solution will come in the form of a Windows version of redsn0w 0.9.7, with the Mac OS X version already available here but it only works with SHSH for iOS 4.2 beta 3.
UPDATED: The version for Windows will work very slowly, according to the Dev Team, because it uses the filesystem to implement the exploit and not the RAM memory.
