HP TouchPad available in the summer, will it cost $699?

HP TouchPad, the tablet recently presented by HP, could be available for purchase only in June 2011, that is exactly when Apple would launch the new iPhone model. BGR received information from sources close to HP that claim that the tablet could cost $699, a pretty good price, but it is not specified whether we are talking about the 16 or 32GB model. Of course, the details are preliminary and a lot can change until the summer, but it seems a little strange for HP to launch a product in the same month as the iPhone launch, considering that all the attention will be focused on Apple. At the same time, the choice of price is strange, in theory it seems ok, but compared to an iPad 2 tablet with the same or better features, it seems to be a bit much.

One of our sources has just provided us with new information surrounding the launch of the recently unveiled HP TouchPad. It's been communicated to us that HP is (or was — it's not clear if things have recently changed) planning on having the TouchPad in the market before the end of June. We've also been told pricing should be $699; slightly less than Motorola's $799 XOOM. How does June and $699 sound for an HP TouchPad?

The HP TouchPad looks very good and if it had the AppStore infrastructure behind it, it would more than likely have had a phenomenal success. For now webOS still remains in the shadows and if HP fails to attract developers, the new products will have the same "road of oblivion" that Palm Pre had.
