sn0wbreeze 2.2 is the only program that allows us to make a custom ipsw for iOS directly from Windows. This new version allows untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 but also allows us to update to iOS 4.2.1 without updating the baseband. Using this program you will NOT unlock your terminals because it does not contain unlocking software. You will not be able to decode basebands 05.14.x, 05.15.x, 02.10.x, 03.10.x because there is no decoding solution for them. You will not be able to downgrade from the 06.15.00 iPad baseband, nor will you solve the GPS problems.
If you have problems using the YouTube application, install PushFix from Cydia to solve them. iH8sn0w is not allowed to implement the patch in sn0wbreeze.

Step 1
Download iOS 4.2.1 for your device from here:

Download sn0wbreeze 2.2 here: [download id=”118″]
Step 3
Change the extension of the firmware file downloaded in step 1 from .zip to .ipsw. If you are on Windows Vista / 7 then right click on sn0wbreeze and select Run as Administrator. You will receive a warning message not to distribute the program, press ok then press the blue button to continue.
Step 4
Now you will be greeted by a screen that asks you to search in the computer where you saved the iOS 4.2.1 file downloaded in step 1 and open it, after the program checks the file then the ok sign will appear, then press the blue button to keep going.
Step 5
The program has 2 work options: simple mode and expert mode. Simple mode is the simplest and optionless method, and expert mode will give you the opportunity to customize everything you want to enter in the firmware, in this tutorial expert mode will explain. Both simple and expert modes keep the baseband intact.
The third option is called Baseband Preservation Mode, which you can select if you have an iPhone for which you do not want to update the baseband but do not want to jailbreak. Selecting this option will allow you to update to iOS 4.2.1 WITHOUT baseband update. By selecting this option you will make a custom ipsw that does NOT have Cydia installed, does NOT jailbreak your device but simply keeps the baseband intact. This option is for those who do not want to jailbreak, unlock or update baseband. Do not use it if you need jailbreak and unlock, for that use simple/expert mode.
Step 6
Now we get to the slightly more complicated things. In this screen sn0wbreeze it will show the options we have in the firmware configuration, the General option is the one that will take you through all the others, so we will select this one. Select General and then press the blue button to continue.
Step 7
Now you will reach the screen that offers you the following options:
- Activate the iPhone – the option to activate the phone, check it if NU you have the card of the operator where the phone was purchased, if you have it or the phone is unlocked from the factory, then uncheck it and do the activation with iTunes;
- Install Animated Boot Logo – if you activate this option you will install an animated boot logo, if you deactivate it it will not be installed;
- Install SSH – installs OpenSSH from Cydia to allow you to access system files via SSH;
- Enable Background Wallpaper – activates the option to set a wallpaper for iPhone 3G;
- Enable Battery-Percentage – activates the option to display the battery percentage on the iPhone 3G;
- Enable Native Multitasking – activates native iOS multitasking for iPhone 3G.
It is up to you whether you want to activate them or not.
Root Partition size gives you the opportunity to select the space allocated to the system partition, I recommend leaving the value there. Press the blue button to continue.
Step 8
Now you will reach the menu where you can select applications from Cydia/from the computer to be automatically installed in ipsw. Select the desired .deb files from the computer using the browse option, then press the blue button to continue.
Step 9
After selecting the appropriate files, you reach the main menu where you must select Build ipsw to start the process by which your custom ipsw is made.
After pressing the blue button you will reach a menu where you can choose if you want to play PacMan or see the classic rotated.
To run PacMan you must have flash installed, unfortunately it didn't work for me even though I have flash so you can play with the option to see if it works.
After you finish customizing the ipsw, you will see the message below.
Step 10
Now press the ok button to enter the terminal in Pwned DFU Mode using sn0wbreeze. It is very important to follow the steps below. Connect the device to the PC.
First, turn off your device.
press the Power button for 3 seconds;
while holding down Power press and Home and keep them pressed for another 10 seconds;
release the Power button and hold only home and the device enters DFU Mode.
Step 11
After the process is finished, open iTunes, hold down the Shift button on the keyboard while pressing restore and select the custom ipsw made with sn0wbreeze, it should have this name sn0wbreeze_iPhone 4-4.2.1.ipsw and it should be on the desktop.
Step 12
After your device starts, connect to the internet, open Cydia and install ultrasn0w to unlock.
