Pwn2Own – geohot against Windows Phone 7, Apple will fix 50 Webkit vulnerabilities

Next week, the Pwn2Own contest will take place, the biggest hacking contest in the world, in which security experts and hackers will demonstrate exploits of desktop and mobile operating systems, browsers, plus much, much more. According to the company specialized in securing IT systems Vupen, Apple has been working for some time on solving WebKit vulnerabilities and next week will release an update for Safari that will solve no less than 50 such security problems. In addition to the update intended for the Safari browser, Apple has also prepared one for Mac OS X that aims to solve vulnerabilities of the operating system.

At Pwn2Own hackers will compete for prizes worth $65.000 and it seems that geohot has signed up already in a team whose objective will be to crack the Windows Phnoe 7 operating system running on a Dell Venue Pro. We already know that Microsoft encouraged geohot to make a jailbreak solution for Windows Phone 7, so they probably won't adopt a similar attitude to that of Sony after geohot succeeds in exploiting Windows Phone 7.

In addition to Dell Venue Pro, the organizers will also record attempts to exploit iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 (probably), BlackBerry Torch 9800 and Nexus S with the latest version of Android. It will be interesting to see what exploits will be discovered in these operating systems and how they could be used in the future.
