Video: Flare brings HDR video shooting to iPhone 4

Flare is an application recently launched in the App Store that allows iPhone 4 owners to shoot HDR in real time. In the video clip above we have a demonstration of how a video clip filmed using this application looks and to be honest I am not that impressed. The video clip above looks much worse than a normal video clip shot using the iPhone 4's Camera app, so I don't think Flare is a viable option for shooting better quality video clips. Apple has implemented the HDR function for photos starting with iOS 4.1 for certain terminals, but HDR for video brings Flare, which is compatible with any iDevice released after the iPhone 3GS.

Here are the functions of Flare:

  • effects live on screen – no delay
  • focus independently of exposure* – just tap then drag
  • pinch to zoom
  • easily lock white balance, exposure, and focus by tapping
  • share full quality videos to facebook, twitter, youtube, tumblr, flickr, and more
  • independent focus and exposure available on devices which support focus control

The Flare application is available in the App Store for €1.59.
