Today it appeared on the Skype YouTube channel the above video clip in which the future iPad application of the famous instant messaging service is presented. The video clip was deleted and put back on the Skype YouTube channel, so it is as truthful as possible. In the video, the functions of the application are demonstrated: instant messaging, the possibility of making video calls via 3G/Wi-Fi, it basically has the same functions as the iPhone application. What we see there is specially made for the iPad tablet screen and it was time for Skype to launch this application considering that millions of users are waiting for it.

Officially, nothing is known about a possible launch date of the new application, but when it is available I will let you know.

UPDATED: Those from TUAW managed to get in touch with 2 members of Skype's management team who confirmed that the iPad application will be available as soon as it is accepted in the App Store by Apple.

Osterloh says that the iPhone version of Skype burst out of the gate quickly, with a big launch and "a userbase that doubled in just a month's time." And he said the iPad version should "have a similar success," especially since it's basically the same in functionality: chatting, audio and video calling, and all of the other standard actions you can expect from Skype. The current app has been in testing for a few months now, and Osterloh is excited to unleash it on the public.
