Android – 550.000 daily activations, 135 million activated terminals, barely half compared to iOS

Last night Google and submitted financial results for the second fiscal quarter of 2011, the company announcing record revenues of more than 9 billion dollars. In the announcement made, Google mentioned that the activation rate for Android terminals has reached 550.000 per day at the moment and over 135 million terminals have been activated so far. Apple announced that over 200 million iDevices have been sold so far, so Google with its Android is still far from Apple, but considering the rate at which terminals are activated, Google could catch up with Apple quite quickly.

In June Andy Rubin "the father of Android" announced that over 500.000 new activations are made for Android terminals every day and that this number increases by 4.4% every week. It seems that since then and until now it has reached 550.000 daily activations, but this increase could stop in the following months when Apple will launch the new iPhone 5 terminal. Considering the multitude of Android terminals available on the market, it is inevitable that the number of active Android terminals to surpass that of iDevices, but we still have to wait until this threshold is reached.
