Is Telefonica reducing iPhone prices in preparation for the iPhone 5 launch on September 12?

Telefonica is one of the largest companies in the world owning several telephone operators such as O2, Movistar, Viva, Terra, etc. The company practically owns operators that operate in several important countries in Europe and South America and according to those from Engadget in certain countries, Telefonica will start a price reduction campaign for iPhone terminals. This price reduction will be active until September 12, when it is assumed that Telefonica will launch the new iPhone 5 at some of its mobile operators.

Why could this be the real date? Because Telefonica owns O2, a mobile phone operator also active in Great Britain, and there Apple will launch the iPhone 5 in the very first wave of releases. The 12th is a Monday, so it is unlikely that Apple will actually launch the terminal then, but the 16th seems much safer and matches some rumors published so far. If the information from Telefonica is true, then we could have iPhone 5 available in stores from September 16 and not from October.
