UK supermarkets equip shopping carts with iPad docks

In the UK iDevices seem to be widely used anywhere and anytime since some supermarkets they will invest considerable sums to buy shopping carts equipped with tablet docks. The carts will be equipped with batteries and solar chargers that allow the tablet to be charged, but they will also have proximity sensors that warn users when a person gets too close to their own cart. These carts will be introduced in several supermarkets in west London and if the project is successful then it will be implemented on a national scale.

The trolleys come complete with a tilting iPad holder and speakers. Their front bumpers are fitted with a sensor which lets off a warning beep if an engrossed shopper gets too close to another customer, while an onboard battery with a self-charging solar panel ensures that the iPads never run out of power.

The British generally had strange ideas but this could prove to be very useful for customers. Many will appreciate the dock if it gives them the opportunity to charge their device and the tablet can be used to write a shopping list, so I personally think it's a good idea for British society. In Romania maybe in about 5-10 years there will be a need for something like this.
