TomTom will launch a satellite navigation application for the iPad

     TomTom, the manufacturer of satellite navigation systems, prepare an application for the iPad which will be released in the App Store in the near future. The company announced today at IFA Berlin 2011 that the iPad application has entered the final stages of development and that in the following weeks it will be officially launched in the App Store. The application for the iPad will bring users the same functions as the application for the iPhone, but we will of course have the benefit of a larger screen and better resolution cards. The interesting part is that the iPad application will be available for free to all those who have purchased the iPhone version, so you won't have to take a penny out of your pocket.

     Here are some of the novelties brought by the future version of the application:

  • The fastest way to avoid traffic thanks to the award-winning HD Traffic service, available as an in-app purchase;
  • Fewer fines for speeding through to real-time alerts of speed cameras, purchased as an in-app purchase;
  • The TomTom maps more accurate in your pocket – you do not need the telephone signal;
  • Updated daily and free of the map in every place where you are, via Map Share;
  • Reliable arrival times at any time of day with IQ Routes;
  • Seamless integration of iPhone contacts, photos, music, email and calendar;
  • Drive safely while you are on the phone with support for iPhone OS multitasking.

    Unfortunately, the TomTom maps for Romania are not as well detailed as those for iGo or Navigon, but the hope is that in the not-too-distant future the manufacturer will also turn its attention to this part of Europe.
