redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 1 – here's everything new

Just a few minutes ago Dev Team released version 0.9.9 beta 1 of redwsn0w, a version that brings a completely modified UI and many new functions that will prove to be extremely useful for any jailbreak user. In the image above we have the new UI of the program and notice that now we do NOT need to have an IPSW in the computer to jailbreak, redsn0w taking the necessary files directly from the Apple servers. The main interface of redsn0w is the one above and now everything is divided into 2: Jailbreak and Extras. I will discuss both in turn to present all the news.

jailbreak

This is basically the important function that has now been brought to the fore by the Dev Team and to use it you must have the device entered in DFU Mode because as soon as you press the button the whole jailbreak process will begin. Everything is much simpler than in the past, everything is done with just one click and I'm glad to see that the Dev Team has finally decided to significantly improve the functionality of its own program.

Extras

The Extras section gives us access to all the other functions adjacent to the jailbreak, functions that are more than necessary and extremely useful for any user. Having said that, the Extracts section is divided into 6 large categories: Just Boot, Pwned DFU, Recovery Fix, SHSH Blobs, Select IPSW si Preferences. These are the most important functions and I will discuss each one in turn.

Just boot - the function that allows us to boot our tethered terminal, practically to use it you must have the terminal in DFU Mode before pressing the button.

Pwned DFU – the function that allows us to use a custom ipsw with our devices. The terminal must be in DFU Mode before pressing the button for the process to work. Using this function, get rid of the 16xx errors during the restore process.

Recovery Fix - using this function we can remove a terminal from Recovery Mode after receiving an error during the restore process. Recovery Fix can solve problems with errors 1015, 1013, etc. and theoretically works with iOS 4.x, regardless of the version. Theoretically, the function should also be available on iOS 5.

SHSH Blobs - here things get a little complicated because this section includes 5 more new functions that I will detail below:

    • Fetch – checks the iOS version installed in the terminal, saves partial SHSHs and sends them to Cydia for verification and approval. DO NOT save SHSH for the iOS version available in the terminal if Apple DOES NOT sign it.

    • Verify – check SHSHs available to the user to see if they can be used for a restore.
    • Submit – allows sending SHSHs to Cydia for server saving. We can send SHSHs saved with TinyUmbrella to the computer that Cydia does not have, SHSHs can be complete or partial, both in .plist and .shsh format.
    • Query – allows checking SHSHs saved in Cydia for a specific device. The function needs your ECID, which you can find with redsn0w from the Preferences>ECID menu.

    • Stitch – allows the attachment of SHSHs for a custom ipsw. Unfortunately, the function is not complete, so it makes sense to insist on it now. I'll be back with details and the entire process as soon as MuscleNerd completes it. The Stitch function has problems in the process of saving the baseband during the restore, so DO NOT use it!

    • Select IPSW – allows selecting an IPSW that is not available for download on Apple's servers. It is only necessary for jailbreak and ONLY if redsn0w was not started the first time on a computer with internet access.

Preferences – it is divided into 3 small categories: ECID, Boot Args, Boot Logo.

  • CIDS – the function that allows us to find out the ECID of our terminal in order to use it with the Query function that allows checking the SHSHs available in Cydia. We can find out the ECID in both HEX and Decimal format.
  • Boot Args - allows setting some commands to run at boot, more precisely we can force the terminal to display lines of code instead of the Apple apple, etc.
  • Boot logo - allows the use of a boot logo in the boot process.

These are all the novelties brought by redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 1, but unfortunately the program must be used in compatibility with XP on Windows 7, otherwise the main functions cannot be used. Unfortunately we are talking about a beta version of redsn0w so be very careful with it, some functions are experimental and could work with certain problems. You can download redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 1 from here: WindowsMac OS X.
