Apple patents the system of using an iDevice during a call

You all know that an iPhone can be used during a phone call, more precisely you can keep the call open and access the iOS interface very simply and easily. Almost all smartphones allow exactly the same functionality, but Apple seems to have taken a big step towards forcing a change. Today the company from Cupertino it was patented this system of using a smartphone during a phone call and theoretically all Android terminals plus those of other manufacturers would violate Apple's patent.

A method, comprising: at a portable electronic device with a touch screen display: displaying on the touch screen display a first user interface for a phone application during a phone call; detecting activation of a menu icon or menu button during the phone call, in response to detecting activation of the menu icon or menu button, replacing the first user interface for the phone application with a menu of application icons including an icon for the phone application and an icon for a non-telephone application; maintaining the phone call while displaying the menu of application icons on the touch screen display; detecting a finger gesture on an application icon in the menu of application icons other than the phone application icon; in response to detecting the finger gesture on the application icon other than the phone application icon, displaying a corresponding application user interface on the touch screen display while continuing to maintain the phone call and modifying the corresponding application user interface to include a switch application icon that is not displayed in the corresponding application user interface when there is no ongoing phone call; detecting a finger gesture on the touch screen display on the switch application icon; and in response to detecting the finger gesture on the switch application icon, replacing the display of the corresponding application user interface with the first user interface for the phone application while continuing to maintain the phone call.

Apple describes not only the technology itself but also the steps a user takes with his smartphone to use it, and this could prove to be a big problem for competitors. With the help of this patent, Apple could sue any manufacturer of Android terminals and probably even win the case before the courts, something that happened today with HTC and with another patent. Those from Apple have made it a "mission" to patent all the technologies implemented in iOS and with their help they could get a lot of money from Android terminal manufacturers.

This patent is very interesting and I think it will help the Apple people to change a lot in the current disputes.

1. During a call on a mobile device with a touch screen, with the phone user interface showing, the user touches either a menu button or an icon.

2. The device replaces the phone interface with a menu of application icons, including the phone icon.

3. A user's finger gesture chooses another app.

4. The app's interface comes up, all the while not dropping the call. The interface includes a "switch application icon" only when a phone call is occurring.

5. The user performs a finger gesture on the switch application icon, taking the user back to the phone interface.

  1. Yes, well thought out, the fight of the "clones" is tough 🙂
But in any case, Android always wins here, Romanians want big and cheap, they don't pay for quality 😛
    I'm right?!

  2. Those who allow patenting of all kinds of things are idiots..well they don't patent apple and the white phone, the round button and other nonsense..
But if I think about it.. maybe this article is written ambiguously.. and in fact apple patented the way to use an iphone during the call and not the possibility to do that.
I had this possibility on the n80 when there was no iPhone..so..Apple patents only the steps..nothing else

  3. Something like this has existed since the days of mobile phones with Windows and resistive screen from the time when Apple didn't make phones! It seems that with those retarded Americans who switched from the LGs with the flap to the iPhone, you can patent anything.

  4. Well done Apple, another patent you deserve. Work is rewarded through patents.

Apple can rightfully ask for the banning of the sale of some terminals, or the payment of a large royalty per unit, like for every green plastic phone sold, 10-15 dollars to go to Apple.

And since Apple doesn't need money, having almost 90 billion dollars in its piggy bank, the simplest thing would be to ask for a ban on phones that copy their patent.

Usually when you STEAL you have to PAY or COMPENSATE the owner.

  5. @Anonymous do you think you are in Romania? ... Apple is doing very well as it is the only way to get rid of copiers like Samsung, any patented technology is a pain in the ass of copiers...

  6. I suggest not to rely exclusively on the power of Appke. in 5 years it drops to 50% of what it is now at least...

Apple will lose serious ground all because of its own behavior. After SJ's death, what was bad about apple came to the surface...corporate greed...no more fairy dust...the dream was shattered.

You can look at the comments from a year, a year and a half ago and you can look now... the cult is dying...

  7. the next patent of those from apple will be the simultaneous vibration with the ringer, then the camera, then the phone with a microphone, then.... they will go right.... with patents and everything... competition is still a good thing, don't you think?

  8. Soon apple will also patent the way the TV is turned on and the way we put the spoon to the mouth... stupider than pple, you haven't seen us honestly 😉 patent when you invent not when you copy .. if people say that this system has been valid for a long time the nokia terminals then means that apple did nothing but copy and say it's theirs

well, it's still a little while before apple flies from Europe
