Apple loses a lawsuit against Motorola

In October 2010, Apple sued Motorola citing the violation patents for the iPhone terminal. After more than a year of hearings, today the US ITC agency issued a preliminary decision by which it decided that Motorola did not infringe any of Apple's patents. The preliminary decision must be approved by all six members of the commission, but it will more than likely be supported by all and Apple will have the option to appeal against it.

We are pleased with today's favorable outcome for Motorola Mobility. Motorola Mobility has worked hard over the years to develop technology and build an industry-leading intellectual property portfolio. We are proud to leverage this broad and deep portfolio to create differentiated innovations that enhance the user experience.

Apple argued that the Motorola Droid 1/2/X/ terminals were built in violation of the patents of the iPhone terminal, but in the end those from ITC did not share the same opinion. Apple requested a ban on the sale of Motorola's terminals in the US, but so far it has only obtained a refusal, but it has the possibility to appeal against the decision. This is the first defeat suffered in a court in 2012 by Apple, but it will certainly not be the last.
