OS X Mountain Lion will not work on some Macs, here is the full list and system requirements

  Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), released OS X Mountain Lion for OS X app developers this evening and many have downloaded it but some have found out that their Macs are not compatible with this operating system. To begin with, I will tell you that Apple no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 and x3100 chipsets, but the operating system works on Core 2 Duo processors, but only if the system has a powerful graphics card. Although list of limitations is large, most Mac owners will be able to run the operating system and below you have listed everything you need to know.

  OS X Mountain Lion will be able to:

  • MacBook Pro – 13″ mid 2009 or newer, 15″ wide 2007 or newer, 17″ wide 2007 or newer;
  • MacBook Air – late 2008 or newer;
  • iMac – mid 2007 or newer;
  • MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 or newer;
  • Mac Mini – early 2009 or newer;
  • Mac Pro – early 2008 or newer
  • XServe – early 2009 or newer;

  Here are the Macs that won't be able to run the new Mountain Lion:

  • Macs with Intel GMA 950 or x3100 chipset (integrated graphics card);
  • Macs with ATI Radeon X1600 graphics cards;
  • MacBooks released before 2008 (Model Numbers: MB061*/B, MB062*/B, MB063*/B, MB402*/A MB403*/A MB404*/A, MB402*/B);
  • Mac Minis released before 2007 ((MB138*/A, MB139*/A));
  • iMacs released before 2007 (MA710xx/A);
  • First version of MacBook Air(MB003LL/A).

  • 64-Bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better required
  • Ability to boot into OS X 64-bit kernel
  • Advanced GPU chipset required
  • Internet connection required to download and install OS X 10.8
