LSCameraExtender is a tweak published last evening in Cydia that adds an interesting functionality to the LockScreen button that normally could be used to open the iOS Camera application. LSCameraExtender allows us to change the functionality of that button and instead of opening the Camera application it will activate the screen orientation lock system or turn off the sound in iOS. Deactivating the sound can also be done with the help of the side button positioned above the volume buttons, but LSCameraExtender can change the functionality of that button by turning it into a button that blocks the orientation of the iDevice screen. If that button turns off the sound in iOS, then in the lockscreen you can put a button to lock the screen orientation. If the side button blocks the orientation of the screen, then in LockScreen you can display a button that disables the sounds in iOS.

LSCameraExtender lets you organize the way you want the orientation lock and the mute of your device. It allows first to choose if the hardware switch should set the orientation to locked or unlocked state or if it should, as normally, set the ringer muted or not. The second feature of this tweak is an easier way to access to the action you have 't set to the switch. As if you were going in the switcher bar, a simple double click on the home button, but on the home screen, will show you the button corresponding to the feature the hardware switch doesn't act on. You'll never hear again your phone ringing during a conference because the hardware switch set the mute off, but you'll still be able to set it on or off without unlocking your device.

LSCameraExtender is available for $0.99 in Cydia's BigBoss repo. LSCameraExtender only works on iOS 5.
