Apple has been granted a patent for a new technology for HD televisions

If there are still rumors suggesting that Apple will launch a TV, here it is now we have a new patent that comes only to confirm the information. A patent has been registered to the Apple company that describes a technology through which televisions with a high refresh rate can be produced. The patent prevents a technology called S-IPS that allows Apple to produce televisions that display more real colors, have better brightness and have higher performance, and here we are of course talking about the refresh rate of the screen.

The technology is an off-shoot of IPS called S-IPS. It's a technology that provides superior performance and color gamut with high brightness. IPS technology is currently being used in Apple's iMac – which stems from this patent... Embodiments of Apple's granted patent and invention provide for a FFS TFT LCD with a high refresh rate without limiting the aperture of individual pixels. More specifically, embodiments of the invention provide for the use of common bus lines to reduce the effective resistance of the common electrode and therefore allow for higher refresh rates of the display.

The S-IPS technology is an improved version of the IPS technology that is used in the current Apple iMacs and the patent itself was sent for registration in 2008, so it is almost 4 years old. The technology would allow Apple to build the screens it needs to produce the new HDTV, but for now no one knows what Apple's real plans are. There are very high chances that the possible television produced by the company will have technologies that will be patented in the future, but until then we have a new confirmation of the fact that Apple is interested in producing a television.
