A US store offers a warranty for iPhone/iPod Touch terminals and iPad tablets that have been jailbroken

Although Apple does not warrant iPhone/iPod Touch terminals or iPAd tablets that have been jailbroken, an online store in the US does this thing through a recently introduced warranty plan. The strategy focuses on attracting a large number of customers and I think that the decision to offer a guarantee even for this type of terminal seems to me to be a very good one. A jailbreak cannot physically affect an iDevice, it can in the worst case bring you into the situation of doing a restore, so the coverage of the jailbreak through the guarantee has no way of affecting the company's business.

Third-party gadget warranty service SquareTrade today expanded its coverage, and now supports jailbroken iPhones. That procedure — which gives device owners deep system-level access, letting them install third-party software from places other than Apple's App Store — voids Apple's own warranty, and that from carriers.

Apple is against jailbreak because it gives users the freedom they need, but there have been quite a few cases where jailbroken terminals have been replaced by Apple under warranty. I hope that the decision of the American store will echo in Europe, maybe even in Romania.
