TomTom provides the maps available in the Maps application from iOS 6

Last night Apple announced the launch of a new Maps application, which I have briefly presented here, which no longer works based on the maps available in the Google Maps system, but based on maps cstarted by TomTom. Officially, Apple did not say who its partners are, it only said that the system is its own, but those from TomTom confirmed the collaboration with the American company. Although at first glance the collaboration seems auspicious, unfortunately TomTom does not have sufficiently detailed maps of Romania, the last update of its own application in the App Store indicating that only 42% of Romania's surface is covered.

In big cities you shouldn't have problems finding any location, but if you are in a small town or outside the city, then you might have problems making a route to a certain destination. I expect that by autumn the maps will be much updated, but at the moment the Maps application has become semi-useless for Romania.

UPDATE: It seems that OpenStreetMap also offers maps for the Maps application, you can find more details in this company document.
