In schools or kindergartens in Romania, children and students do not learn how to give first aid in an emergency situation, and courses on this topic are quite few and very few Romanians have access to them. Thus, many Romanians do not know what to do when they are in a borderline situation. Only in 2010, more than 1.000.000 people requested emergency medical help at 112. Most of those who called 112 did not know what to tell the operators or how to proceed in the case of a person who needs help until the rescuers arrive.
Thus, the MaiMultVerde Association, in partnership with SMURD and ING Asigurari de Viata, created the First Aid Lesson, a prevention and education program that offers solutions to the most frequent emergency situations. The program includes the show Lectia de prim ajutor, the website www.lectiadeprimajutor.ro and smartphone applications, the first of this kind in Romania.
The program is publicly supported by Raed Arafat, the founder of SMURD and by numerous other personalities. As a sign of gratitude for this support, ING Asigurari de Viata decided to donate 1 Euro to SMURD for each download of the application.
