Here is a detailed presentation of iPhone sales over time

  More than 260 million iPhones were sold by Apple from 2007 until now, and in the table above we have a detailed presentation of the number of terminals sold by the company. Note that it all started with only 270.000 units of the iPhone 2G sold in 2007, and from there the number continued to increase until Q3 2008 when it decreased extremely much, but the decrease came before the launch of the iPhone 3G. This release marked the beginning of growth for Apple, growth that was doubled by the release of the iPhone 4 and doubled again after that by the release of the iPhone 4S.

  It is estimated that iPhone 5 will double sales for each fiscal quarter of 2012 and that a total of 250 million units of this device will be sold in 3 years, but it remains to be seen if users will be really that excited about this device. If you look at the estimates below, you can see that each new version of an iPhone sold almost twice as well as the previous version, and this is taken into account when Apple estimates the sales of a new iPhone.

  • iPhone (up to Q4 2008): 13 million units;
  • iPhone 3G (up to Q4 2009): 21 million units;
  • iPhone 3GS (up to Q4 2010): 40 million units;
  • iPhone 4 (up to Q4 2011): 72 million units;
  • iPhone 4S (until Q4 2012): probably over 124 million units;
