LG Display becomes the main supplier of LCD screens for Apple, replacing Samsung

LG Display is a division of the famous LG company, which deals with the production of screens for electronic devices. This company was chosen by Apple to replace Samsung in the production of screens for iDevices and Macs, those from DigiTimes stating that in recent months Apple has concluded the most contracts with LG. All the products presented by Apple on October 23 have screens produced by LG Display, Apple being probably the most important partner of LG Display at the moment.

LG Display (LGD) has acquired most of the panel orders for all Apple's new products which were announced on October 23 including the iPad mini, fourth-generation iPad, 13-inch MacBook Pro and 21.5- and 27-inch iMac models, according to industry sources. Au Optrinics (AUO) also supplies panels for the iPad mini, said the sources. On LGD's end, panels for the iPad mini are being made from In-Plane Switch (IPS) technology while AUO is using AHVA technology. AUO is reportedly having issues with producing the panels and is being allocated a much smaller proportion of shipments for the iPad mini as a result, added the sources.

Although now LG Display also produces LCD screens for Google, Amazon or Dell, the contracts concluded with Apple could force them to give up some of their customers because Apple pays quite well and orders very large quantities, and for LG this is extremely of good At the moment, LG could be Apple's main partner that produces LCD screens, Samsung holding this position until it started copying the designs of iDevices and alienated its most profitable partner.
