One of the great advantages of jailbreaking is the ability to customize our iDevices, and people who don't can't change the appearance of iOS at all. This was valid until today, because o new application for OS X, called Carrier Editor, can help us modify the Carrier Logos of our terminals without jailbreaking. The Carrier Logo is the text that will tell you which mobile phone operator you use and it can be replaced with another text or a small image.
The application is available exclusively for OS X and is only useful for those who own iPhones or iPad tablets, regardless of model. To modify a carrier logo you must:
- Download CarrierEditor following this link;
- Open the application;
- Press the Let's Get Started button;
- Navigate in the Settings application of iOS to Settings> General> About, where you will search for the text Carrier and enter the number next to that field, without writing the name of the mobile operator;
- After entering the Carrier Bundle version number, you must choose your device type and mobile operator. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to test the application, so I do not know if it is compatible with our operators;
- By choosing the operator you will be directed to the menu where you must choose the carrier logo you will use. If you have Carrier Logos in your computer you can use them in the application, but otherwise you can use the ones provided by the developers. After choosing the desired carrier logo, press the Compile Carrier Update button and the files will be generated on the desktop, the application displaying both the original carrier bundle and the modified one.
After you have made the desired Carrier Bundle, open iTunes, and holding down the shift button (for Windows) and the option key (for Mac) on the keyboard, use the mouse to click on the Restore option of iTunes. After you click on that button, iTunes will open a window in which you will navigate to the desktop and select the new Carrier Bundle, a file with the extension .ipcc, which will be automatically loaded into the terminal. This process does not restore the device if you follow it exactly as described here. If you accidentally press the Restore button without holding down a keyboard button, immediately disconnect the terminal from the PC to avoid performing a restore.
By resetting the terminal, you will see the new Carrier Logo and the process ends here. I don't have a Mac at my disposal, I couldn't test the application, so do it at your own risk.
