Samsung is preparing to revolutionize the TV at a time when consumers want content and not new functions

For years it has been rumored that Apple is going to launch a TV, Tim Cook made us understand that his company is concentrating its efforts in this direction, but Samsung wants to do everything before those from Apple. CES 2013, the biggest annual convention for the presentation of electronic products, will start in just a few days, and Samsung suggests that a new TV will be launched then. The Koreans published the teaser above and an image that suggests the idea that their TV would have a translucent screen, plus a revolutionary design/shape. Of course, no one knows exactly what Samsung is going to announce, but you should not get your hopes up that a change will come from South Korea that will shock the world, the same being true in the case of Apple.

The problem for Samsung could lie in the fact that at the moment customers would like more content on their TVs and not more new functions. A study of Americans from NPD reveals that users want to watch more content on their own TVs and are not really that interested in implementing some functions available on PCs or mobile terminals. Most of the interfaces for smart TVs would be much too complicated and difficult for consumers to use, they being mainly interested in the possibility of accessing online multimedia content and an intuitive functionality, games or the possibility of accessing social networks not being in the top of preferences.

It is quite logical that users want to watch movies on TV and not Angry Birds games, the producers understand this, but they try to impose their own ideas, but everything will change as soon as the market becomes crowded and the Smart TV software- will become a bit smarter. I know that many of you have Smart TVs at home and I am curious to find out if the results of the study apply to you as well.
