The operator announces that Cosmote's 3G+ network covers 153 cities in Romania and offers speeds of up to 43.2 Mbps, but the 4G network will initially be available from April in only a few cities in the country, and from today it can be tested in the Cosmote store located in Baneasa Shopping City Mall in Bucharest.
Only in 2014 the network 4G a Cosmote should cover several hundred cities in the country, and until then it will become compatible with iDevices, but at the moment it is not. Orange Romania is the only mobile phone operator in the country that has a network LTE 4G compatible with tablets iPad Mini si iPad 4, but only on the internet access side. Although the announcement from Cosmote is interesting and deserves attention, I can only think of the amazement with which it will be received by subscribers who have slow internet browsing speeds and face problems accessing the 3G network, even in proximity to medium-sized cities.
COSMOTE Romania today presented the latest developments brought to its broadband network, through a live demo session held in Bucharest. The company is gradually moving towards 4G technology, the first step in this direction having already been taken, by expanding the speed offered by the data network up to 43,2 Mbps at the national level. Currently, COSMOTE Romania offers the best 3G data network with the largest coverage in Romania.
"COSMOTE Romania currently offers the highest 3G speed, 43,2 Mbps, with the best coverage and we will not stop there. The 43,2 Mbps COSMOTE network will be available in 153 cities and 900 localities in Romania, covering 47% of the population, by the end of the first quarter of 2013. Starting from April 2014, after the allocation of the new spectrum from ANCOM, the service data offered by LTE technology will be available at maximum capacity in terms of quality and geographic coverage, especially in areas with high population density. Thus, the data network of COSMOTE Romania, which already offers the best speed, with the largest coverage in Romania, will become even more efficient", said Lampros Iskos, Chief Technical Officer, COSMOTE Romania.
In order to improve the mobile Internet experience, from the end of April 2013, COSMOTE Romania will offer its customers the opportunity to benefit from 4G technology, in several cities, including Bucharest. "Our priority is to offer excellence in the experience of using 4G technology both through modems and tablets or terminals. Therefore, all our efforts are aimed at this goal. We are in the process of designing the best products based on this technology, according to the needs identified in the market. They will be developed gradually in the next period. At the same time, starting today and until the end of April 2013, technology enthusiasts are invited to the COSMOTE store in Băneasa Shopping City Bucharest to test the 4G services that will soon be available in our commercial offer", added Panos Makris, Chief Commercial Officer, COSMOTE Romania.
At the end of December 2012, COSMOTE Romania offered download speeds of up to 43,2 Mbps for mobile Internet in 74 important cities in the country, representing over 41% of the population. Moreover, customers could enjoy speeds of up to 21,6 Mbps in HSPA+ technology, in 147 cities in the country. In total, 3G services currently cover over 73% of Romania's population.
