For several days, 10 popular applications of the App Store were offered for free and promoted by Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, and their developers had a lot to gain. Among them are the developers of the famous Infinity Blade II which attracted 6 million users in the 7 days of the promotion, on the first day the application generated 1.7 million downloads.
The action-RPG sword-fighting game added 5.7 million new players in seven days. Laura Mustard, publicist for the game's developer, Chair Entertainment, said 1.7 million downloads occurred on Monday, the first day of the promotion. Those new downloads, three times what the iOS-exclusive IB2 gets in a normal week, amount to a short-term spike that could pay off big in the long term. Combined, the two Infinity Blades, both published by Epic Games, have now sold almost 50 million copies over the past two and a half years. A repeatedly delayed prequel, Infinity Blade: Dungeons, was officially said to be canceled last week.
The increase in downloads generated by the main application generated an increase in the downloads of Infinity Blade, but also of a book launched in the App Store, the developer company earning a lot of money in the long term. In the 2.5 years of the existence of the Infinity Blade series in the App Store, almost 50 million copies of the games were purchased, the figure being enormous, if we consider that their normal price is $5.99 and they have implemented in-app purchase -hate.
