Phil Schiller reveals the "real" reason behind which the iPad Mini tablet was developed

iPad Mini was launched last year by the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, and the product proved to be extremely popular among consumers, substantially increasing sales of iPad tablets globally. Considering the popularity of the tablet, it was brought into discussion in the process that is now taking place in the USA between Samsung si Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, Samsung's lawyers arguing that Apple copied Samsung's idea regarding the development of tablets with screens smaller than 10 inches.

Price also tried to show that it is common for tech companies to mimic rivals' successful products. Price displayed an email between Apple executives urging the company to consider developing a smaller iPad, forwarding a column from a reporter praising the smaller, seven-inch Galaxy Tab. Apple later introduced the smaller iPad mini. Schiller replied that Apple's decision to develop the iPad mini "wasn't about the competition." He said the smaller iPad began as an experiment for Apple engineers to test whether they could maintain aspects of the original iPad with a smaller screen.

The lawyer says that Apple would have made the iPad tablet because Samsung's tablets were successful and had low prices, bringing as evidence emails from Apple managers who believed that an iPad tablet with a small screen should be developed. Responding to these accusations, Phil Schiller, the SVP of Apple's marketing division, said that the iPad Mini started as a challenge for Apple engineers to develop an iPad tablet with a smaller screen, but with the same physical characteristics, the success of the experiment motivating the company to launch the product.

Although the explanation most likely has nothing to do with reality, Apple launched the iPad Mini not because Samsung was successful with these tablets, because their sales were not great, but because the segment of tablets with 7-inch screens was becoming more and more popular and Apple did not have a product present in it.
