Apple confirms acquisition of PrimeSense

Yesterday I told you that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), would have concluded an agreement regarding the acquisition of the company Israeli PrimeSense, a company whose technologies were used to produce the first version of Xbox Kinect. Without giving details about the purchase, a spokesperson for those from Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), confirmed indirectly the acquisition, the American company paying approximately 360 million dollars based on the agreement. The two companies negotiated for several months before reaching this agreement and probably some of the employees will join the Apple team in the near future.

PrimeSense currently sells 3D sensors and other types of intermediate hardware to companies that produce televisions, mobile terminals, robots or medical devices, but in the case of Apple we are talking about interest in something else. It is speculated that Apple would intend to produce a television whose interface would be controlled using gestures and voice commands, and PrimeSense's technologies would be extremely useful in this situation. Of course, iDevices could also benefit from the technologies developed by the Israeli company, but it remains to be seen if this time the purchase will be confirmed and if Apple will comment on it.
